Angular correlations of galaxy distribution
We study the angular correlations of various galaxy catalogs (CfA1, SSRS1, Perseus-Pisces, APM Bright Galaxies and Zwicky). We find that the angular correlation exponent is γ a = 0.1 ± 0.1 rather than γ a = 0.7 as usually found by the standard correlation function ω(θ). We identify the problem in the artificial decay of ω(θ). Moreover we find that no characteristic angular scale is present in a...
متن کاملAngular momentum transport and disk morphology in SPH simulations of galaxy formation
We perform controlled N-Body/SPH simulations of disk galaxy formation by cooling a rotating gaseous mass distribution inside equilibrium cuspy spherical and triaxial dark matter halos. We systematically study the angular momentum transport and the disk morphology as we increase the number of dark matter and gas particles from 10 to 10, and decrease the gravitational softening from 2 kpc to 50 p...
متن کاملBlue Stragglers as Stellar Collision Products: the Angular Momentum Question
We investigate the structure and evolution of blue stragglers stars which were formed from direct stellar collisions between main sequence stars in globular clusters. In particular, we look at the rotational evolution of the products of off-axis collisions. As found in previous work, such blue stragglers initially have too high an angular momentum to contract down to the main–sequence. We consi...
متن کاملInvestigating the transport of angular momentum from young stellar objects
Aims. In this pilot study, we examine molecular jets from the embedded Class I sources, HH 26 and HH 72, to search, for the first time, for kinematic signatures of jet rotation from young embedded sources. Methods. High-resolution long-slit spectroscopy of the H2 1−0 S(1) transition was obtained using VLT/ISAAC. The slit was placed perpendicular to the flow direction about 2′′ from the sources....
متن کاملAngular momentum distribution of hot gas and implications for disk galaxy formation
We study the angular momentum profiles both for dark matter and for gas within virialized halos, using a statistical sample of halos drawn from cosmological hydrodynamics simulations. Three simulations have been analyzed, one is the “non-radiative” simulation, and the other two have radiative cooling. We find that the gas component on average has a larger spin and contains a smaller fraction of...
